CFTC Statement on Black Lives Matter
We cannot ignore the systemic inequities that communities of color and marginalized groups have continued to face. In order to create a more just world we commit to the difficult and often uncomfortable work of grappling with our biases and addressing and confronting racism in the theatre community. The stage is a powerful place for us to inspire dialogue not only amongst our performers and volunteers, but with our audiences. These are just the first of our initiatives:
1. Working with our Board to thoughtfully rewrite our mission statement to better reflect our values and commitment to creating a more inclusive space that reflects the diversity of our community. 2. We will require all of our contracted staff members and Board to engage in implicit bias training. 3. We will invest our resources into better connecting with communities of color and marginalized groups in order to center more diverse voices and stories. CFTC stands in solidarity with Black Lives Matter. Together, we grieve for the many lives lost and those held back due to systemic racism. We believe that the arts are a powerful way to uplift the voices of marginalized communities and bring people together to understand each other better. We've got work to do, and it's work that must be done. Let's do it together! |
