The City of Fairfax Theatre Company
Request for Fall Play Proposals 2018

The City of Fairfax Theatre Company’s mission is to enrich, educate and connect our community through theatre programming for all ages.

CFTC is currently soliciting proposals from potential directors for our 2018 Fall Dinner Theatre Production. Our fall play is focused on providing role for elementary aged actors. Successful recent fall plays produced by CFTC have included The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, A Christmas Carol, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, The Little Match Girl and The Velveteen Rabbit. Cast sizes have ranged from 10-35 and involved a mixture of children, teens and adults.

Auditions will be held in the beginning of September. Open auditions are required. Rehearsals are normally held two nights a week, and some Saturdays depending on our performance location (Truro Anglican Church) schedule. Performances are at Truro Anglican Church the first weekend in December.

A CFTC board member or the artistic director will serve as producer for the show. CFTC provides a small stipend for artistic staff, usually to the director, stage manager, choreographer and tech director. CFTC will contract for the rights to perform the show. Total production budget for costume, sets and props is usually in the range of $5000. Cast members are charged a $50 fee per family for participating in the show. Ticket prices usually range from $10-$35.
To submit a proposal to direct the 2018 summer musical, please submit the following information to fairfaxcitytheatre@gmail.com no later than November 15:
1.      Contact information: Name, address, email, phone
2.      Your qualifications and experience in theatre.
3.      The show you are proposing, your passion for the project, concept and vision.
4.      Who holds the rights for this show (you may want to make a preliminary inquiry to ensure that the production is available for licensing).
5.      Cast size, casting requirements.
6.     Your initial ideas on production elements and how you would make them work within the expected budget. Please also address any special technical needs, special effects or any other production challenges that should be known in advance.
8.      Any special ideas for marketing and promotion that you would suggest.
9.      CFTC has a network of creative team members, but we are interested to know of anyone in your network that you would like to join you for the production: choreographer, stage manager, tech director, lighting/costume/props designers.
10.  Anything else you think that the board should know.

The board will review all proposals and notify all participants of its decision by December 15.
