Midsummer Night's Dream
|
Unfamiliar with Shakespeare? Fear not, mere mortal! Auditions will be fun. Here is a collection of classic Shakespearean monologues if you need an audition piece. Because Shakespeare's works should be accessible to everyone, this website has a modern "translation" of Shakespeare's plays. These monologues are NOT required for auditions, we simply hope this resource is helpful and we look forward to your audition!

A Midsummer Night’s Dream 2020 Commitment Information
Rehearsal Schedule
Beginning the week of June 22, rehearsals will be held Monday - Thursday nights between 6pm-10pm (depending on actor schedules) and Saturday mornings between 9am-2pm or in some cases 9am-5pm. Rehearsals will be called by scene/character, so not every actor will be called to every rehearsal.
Important dates:
Videography: A professional videographer may possibly make an archival recording of the show. This might be available to order at about $35 per DVD.
T-shirts: Cast t-shirts cost $15 per shirt. Orders will be taken in mid-July. Purchase is not mandatory.
Make-Up: Cast members needing stage makeup for their character WILL BE REQUIRED (due to Covid concerns) to apply their own makeup for the show. Actors will be expected to own personal basic makeup kits. For those who do not own stage makeup, Ben Nye Theatrical Make-Up kits cost about $20 - Actors will NEVER share make-up kits.
Costumes: Small toiletry items like bobby pins, hair ties, hairspray etc., will not necessarily be provided by Costumes. Cast members may be asked to provide personal items of clothing like socks, stockings, camisoles, white dress shirts, men’s dress shoes, women’s dance shoes, black pants etc. CFTC will make every effort to work within an actor's current wardrobe or to provide costume pieces. For Midsummer, actors will be asked to provide their own base costume consisting of a top (shirt, blouse, t-shirt, etc TBD), a bottom (pants, shorts, skirt, etc TBD), and shoes.
Volunteer Opportunities
It takes a great team to put on a show! Parents of children 18 and under will be expected to participate by volunteering various areas. Cast members who have family members that could volunteer as ushers, in concession sales and with any tech or backstage work would be appreciated (and include a free chance to see the show!). Strike is mandatory for all cast members, but cast members under the age of 13 should send a parent in their place to help with strike. Cast members will be given an online signup with volunteer opportunities at first rehearsal on June 22. NOTE: We expect to have restrictions on the number of volunteers we can use at any one time.
Adults (18+) and Parents - Prevention of Sexual Misconduct Training
Cast members, parents and volunteers associated with the show will be required to take an online Prevention of Sexual Misconduct class. Certifications accepted in lieu of the online training include 1) proof of training through Fairfax County Public Schools 2) proof of certification through the Catholic Diocese of Arlington 3) proof of training through Truro Anglican Church. Refusal to comply with this policy by July 10 will result in you and/or your cast members removal from the cast/crew/volunteer team. For those involved in multiple CFTC productions, this training must be renewed every 2 years.
Callbacks
Callbacks - if not given at the audition - will be posted online Wednesday, June 17 by 12 midnight. Please check the website/facebook to see if you have received a callback, and plan to attend the virtual callback auditions on Thursday, June 18. If you do not receive a callback, it does NOT mean you have NOT been cast. Additionally, receiving a callback does not guarantee you a role in the show.
