The City of Fairfax Theatre Company
Request for Summer Musical Proposals 2018

The City of Fairfax Theatre Company’s mission is to enrich, educate and connect our community through theatre programming for all ages.
CFTC is currently soliciting proposals from potential directors for our 2018 Summer Musical. Successful recent musicals produced by CFTC have included Hairspray, The Music Man and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Cast sizes have ranged from 35-60 and involved a mixture of children, teens and adults.
Auditions will be held in mid-May. Open auditions are required. Rehearsals can be held Monday through Thursday evenings and Saturdays from the week after auditions through tech week. Performances will be at Lanier Middle School at the end of July with Friday and Saturday evening performances and Saturday matinees.
CFTC’s artistic director, Kirsten Boyd, will serve as music director and will recruit a small orchestra to perform the score. CFTC provides a small stipend for artistic staff, usually to the director, stage manager, choreographer and tech director. CFTC will contract for the rights to perform the show. Total production budget for costume, sets and props is usually in the range of $7000. Cast members are charged a $50 fee per family for participating in the show. Ticket prices usually range from $15-25.
To submit a proposal to direct the 2018 summer musical, please submit the following information to fairfaxcitytheatre@gmail.com no later than November 15:
1.      Contact information: Name, address, email, phone
2.      Your qualifications and experience in theatre.
3.      The show you are proposing, your passion for the project, concept and vision.
4.      Who holds the rights for this show (you may want to make a preliminary inquiry to ensure that the production is available for licensing).
5.      Cast size, casting requirements.
6.     Your initial ideas on production elements and how you would make them work within the expected budget. Please also address any special technical needs, special effects or any other production challenges that should be known in advance.
8.      Any special ideas for marketing and promotion that you would suggest.
9.      CFTC has a network of creative team members, but we are interested to know of anyone in your network that you would like to join you for the production: choreographer, stage manager, tech director, lighting/costume/props designers.
10.  Anything else you think that the board should know.

The board will review all proposals and notify all participants of its decision by December 15.
