Announcing auditions for LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL this April!

The City of Fairfax Theatre Company will hold auditions for its summer musical on April 10, 2024 at Fairfax Old Town Hall (3999 University Dr, Fairfax, VA) and April 12, 13 and 14, 2024 at Katherine Johnson Middle School (3801 Jermantown Rd, Fairfax, VA) for actors, singers, and dancers ages 16 and up. This year’s production is LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL, an adaptation of the 2001 movie that came to Broadway in 2007 featuring music and lyrics by Nell Benjamin and Laurence O’Keefe.

LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL will be performed at Katherine Johnson Middle School (KJMS) in Fairfax, VA from July 19-27, 2024. Rehearsals begin April 24 and will take place at KJMS, Vienna Baptist Church, or other nearby Fairfax locations until June 23 and at KJMS for the remainder of the production. Strike will be held on July 28, followed by the cast and crew party.

We are committed to open and inclusive casting of actors of diverse ages, races, ethnicities, genders, body types, and abilities. We also encourage you to audition even if you have never been in a play or musical before.

**All roles are open to any ethnicity, with preference for BIPOC ethnicity for Pilar and Nikos, and Indian/South Asian descent for Sundeep Padamandan.

What to Prepare

Please prepare a 16-32 bar or 1 minute cut of a song that is NOT from the show. We prefer you to bring sheet music with you for our accompanist, but you may also play a karaoke track from your phone, if necessary. We suggest listening to the Legally Blonde Original Broadway cast recording on Spotify and consider what songs from other shows might convey the vocal range or characterization of the part you are most interested in.

Please come dressed to move! Everyone will participate in a short dance audition. Even if you have no dance experience, we want to see how you move, how you pick up choreography, and how you show your character when dancing. You do not need to prepare a routine as one will be taught during the audition.

Never auditioned before? Don’t have access to sheet music or don’t know how to prepare a vocal or dance audition? Join us on April 6th from 10am-12pm at Katherine Johnson MS for an audition workshop. You’ll learn a song cut with the group and will be given sheet music you can opt to use during your audition. A dance combination from the show will be taught so you have an idea of what to expect during the audition process. To RSVP, contact legallyblondesm24@gmail.com. Space is limited and those who have never auditioned for CFTC before will have first priority.

Callbacks will be held on April 14 from 2-6 pm for certain roles and will consist of reading scenes from the script and singing excerpts from the show. We will notify you by midnight Saturday, April 13 via email if we would like to see you at callbacks. Even if you are not called back, that does not mean you have not been cast in the show. Callback materials will be posted for your review prior to callbacks. The cast list will be emailed and posted on our Facebook page by Friday, April 19.

Sign up here for a 60 minute time slot on April 10, 12, or 13 that will include both the music and dance portions of the audition. Walk-ins will be accepted, but may have to wait until there is an opening to join a group. We recommend arriving at the very beginning of auditions that day if you’re planning to walk in.

You can download our audition form to bring with you ahead of time, or fill one out on-site. If you plan to fill it out on-site, please be sure to arrive early so you have time to check in and fill it out. Make sure to check our rehearsal calendar to indicate possible conflicts on your audition form. We do make casting decisions based on conflicts and may not be able to accept new, non-emergency conflicts after rehearsals begin on April 24th.

If you would like to submit a video audition, please submit headshot, resume, self tape, audition form, and all known conflicts from April 24-July 28.   Let us know if you are able to attend callbacks on the 14th or not.   Please send materials to legallyblondesm24@gmail.com and the deadline for submission is midnight on April 11th.  Self tape should include:

-Slate with name and song choice, could also include what role(s) you’re interested in.
-32 bar cut of a song (about a minute) that best suits the character you’re most interested in or in the style of the show (contemporary musical theatre or pop song). No accapella. Should have a piano or backing track.
-self tape should be well lit, waist up should be visible
-if you have a dance reel or performance reel, feel free to include that at the end.
-No monologue needed.
