Producing Director

Summary:  

The Producing Director reports to the CFTC Board of Directors through the CFTC Artistic Director and is responsible for overseeing the administrative needs of productions in a fiscally responsible manner. This position requires roughly 25-30 hours per month in a flexible schedule and can be completed in a hybrid of remote and onsite work depending on the stage of production.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Works with the Board of Directors and the Artistic Director to fulfill the mission and vision of the City of Fairfax Theatre Company. 
  • Provides direction to each show’s Producers in the successful organization of production needs for CFTC performances including, but not limited to: main stage productions, Spotlight on the Arts Festival events, and the annual Cabaret fundraiser performance.
  • Booking audition, rehearsal, and performance spaces with partners such as Parks and Rec and Katherine Johnson MS in conjunction with the Producers and Directors’ desired schedule. Acts as the main point of contact with partners for questions, etc.
  • Working with Director of Education to share use of Katherine Johnson MS in the summer to consider both camp and musical production needs.
  • Working with the Artistic Director, Producers, and Directors to hire production roles and assign/track completion of paperwork for design team members and cast to include contracts, prevention of misconduct training, fee payments, and other administrative paperwork as needed.
  • Coordinate with show Producers to ensure the timely completion of tasks on the Producer checklist.
  • Ensure Producers have the CFTC template documents for audition forms, press releases, playbills, calendars, budget, reimbursement, etc., and track completion of paperwork.
  • Approve design team reimbursements and keep track of production budget with Admin Assistant.
  • Coordinate purchasing and check requests with Admin Assistant for the productions such as rental payments, online purchases, and stipend payments.
  • Coordinate load in/strike logistics for checking out/transporting CFTC equipment and rentals. Communicate volunteer needs with the Volunteer Chair to create sign ups.
  • Attend first rehearsal, load in, strike, and production meetings for all productions.
  • Report on production progress and needs at monthly board meetings. Communicate more urgent issues as they occur with Board executive officers and Artistic Director.
  • Work with Marketing team to get show information on the CFTC website, tickets on sale, reviewers invited, etc. Act as point of contact for purchasing ads with DC Metro Arts, MD Theatre Guide, and others.
  • Undertake special projects and assignments as needed.

Education and/or Experience:

  • 1-2 years of administrative experience, preferably in producing or project management.
  • Theatre production experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with applications in Microsoft Office, Google Drive, video conferencing, email and internet.
  • Responsive to emails and phone calls while acting as liaison for CFTC with space rental partners.
  • Ability to effectively present information to participants and/or the Board of Directors.
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal leadership, and communications (both written and oral) skills.
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic and passion. 


Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to complete work on your own computer and phone.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and be on your feet for long periods.
  • Must have reliable transportation.


Compensation: This is a contract role for a period of 1 year (renewable) with a stipend of $1,000 per month.
